Emma Clare Counselling
Counselling for Women who Struggle with Overthinking, People-Pleasing and Self-Doubt
I offer counselling in Scunthorpe and online for women who struggle with self worth which can show up as overthinking, self-doubt and people-pleasing.

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, but you don't have to have everything figured out before you get in touch. My aim is to make the process as simple, welcoming and comfortable as possible. Whether you're completely new to therapy or returning after some time away, we'll work together at a pace that feels right for you.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Â
You find yourself replaying conversations, wondering whether you've said something wrong or what someone might think of you.
Â
You say yes when you'd rather say no, then feel frustrated with yourself afterwards.
Â
You find it easier to support everyone else than to ask for support yourself.
Â
You compare yourself to other women and question whether you're doing enough, even when you've got so much on your plate.
Â
And sometimes, you're just tired of being so hard on yourself.
Â
What you're looking for:
Â
A space where you can talk openly without worrying about being judged.
Â
Someone who will listen, but also help you explore why you think, feel and behave the way you do.
Â
A better understanding of the patterns you keep finding yourself in, even when you know they're not helping you.
Â
Support that goes beyond simply telling you to think positively or be kinder to yourself.
Â
What you want to feel:Â
Â
To make decisions without constantly second-guessing yourself.
Â
To say no without spending the rest of the day feeling guilty.
Â
To stop worrying so much about what other people think.
Â
To recognise your own needs without feeling selfish for having them.
Â
To feel more comfortable with who you are, rather than constantly questioning whether you're doing enough.
Understanding the Patterns Behind How You Feel
You might recognise that you're constantly overthinking, putting other people's needs before your own or being overly critical of yourself. You might even understand that these patterns aren't helping you, but still find yourself repeating them.

Often, these ways of thinking and behaving have developed over time, shaped by our experiences, relationships and the beliefs we've formed about ourselves.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs. This might involve exploring past experiences, understanding how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours influence one another, or recognising the different parts of yourself that sometimes seem to pull you in opposite directions.

We'll work together to understand where these patterns might have come from, what they've helped you cope with and whether they're still serving you today.

Counselling isn't simply about thinking more positively. It's about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, questioning beliefs you've carried for years and gradually building a different relationship with yourself.

Common Questions About Counselling
Is counselling confidential?
You don't need to be experiencing a crisis to benefit from counselling. Perhaps you're tired of overthinking everything, constantly questioning yourself or putting everyone else's needs before your own. Counselling can give you space to explore these experiences and understand yourself a little better.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
Yes. Counselling offers a private, confidential space where you can talk openly without worrying about being judged. As a registered counsellor, I take confidentiality seriously. There are some circumstances where I may need to share information, such as when there are serious concerns about your safety or someone else's, or where disclosure is required by law. I'll explain confidentiality and its limits before we begin working together, so you know what to expect.
What if I don't know what to talk about?
That's absolutely okay. You don't need to arrive with everything figured out. We can explore what's been happening for you, what you'd like to understand and what you're hoping to get from our time together.
How many counselling sessions will I need?
There's no set number of sessions. Some people come with something specific they'd like to explore, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly review how you're finding counselling and what feels helpful for you.
